From Raw Milled Alumina to Precision Components: The ACE Process

When it comes to precision and technical ceramics, experience and expertise are essential. That’s why at Advanced Ceramic Engineering Ltd (ACE), we take pride in our over 40 years of experience in the production and design of high-grade and purity alumina components. Based in Northern Ireland, we offer a wide range of alumina materials and are able to custom-manufacture to your specific requirements.

At ACE, we specialize in alumina bodies for precision ceramics. These advanced ceramics are also known as technical ceramics, high-tec ceramics, or engineered ceramics. They are highly sought after in industries such as electronics, aerospace, chemical processing, and many more. Our alumina materials have been developed to meet the diverse service conditions required by these industries, including vacuum and semi-conductor, pump and valve, laser and medical, and chemical and wear applications.

You may be wondering, how do we produce such high-quality alumina components? The answer lies in our manufacturing process. At ACE, we use raw milled alumina as our starting material. This alumina is then isostatically pressed, meaning it is molded under high pressure to ensure maximum density and elimination of defects. This process is highly important, as any defects in the material can have a negative impact on the final product’s performance.

Once the component is formed, we move on to ‘green’ machining, which is the process of shaping the component while it is still in a softer state. This allows for more intricate designs and customization. After this, the components are sintered at high temperatures to achieve their final form and strength. Finally, diamond grinding is used to achieve the precise dimensions and finish required for the component.

But it’s not just our advanced manufacturing process that sets us apart – it’s also our team. Most of our employees are ex-Seagoe, with some having over 40 years of experience in the production and design of precision and technical ceramics. When Seagoe Ceramics closed its doors in 2002, ACE was formed with a focus on continuing the tradition of excellence in ceramic engineering. As a result, we have decades of tried and trusted methods combined with the latest innovations and an experienced workforce, making ACE a formidable and cutting-edge company in our field.

Our commitment to delivering high-quality and precise components has earned us a strong reputation in the industry. We take great pride in our products and ensure that they meet the highest standards of quality control. Furthermore, we are continuously investing in research and development
